POSTCARD IRWIN: Was ist Kunst: Tbilisi, 2007
IRWIN Collection
Postcard featuring a motif from the project Was ist Kunst: Tbilisi (2007), part of the extensive Was ist Kunst series by the art collective IRWIN. Through this project, the artists explore the question of what art is, critically examining its historical, political, and cultural frameworks.
The project was realized in collaboration with the NSK Garda, the symbolic guard formation of Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), a collective that brings together artists and groups from different disciplines. Since the 1980s, NSK has been internationally recognized for its critical engagement with ideology, state symbolism, identity, and mechanisms of representation, often employing strategies of appropriation, reinterpretation of historical imagery, and the creation of parallel institutional structures.
Created in Tbilisi, the work opens a space for reflection on diverse artistic traditions and on the connections between local and global cultural contexts. This postcard is a distinctive collector’s item for anyone interested in contemporary art, critical thought, and international artistic dialogue.
