Klavdij Sluban: Elsewhere Here
Photomonograph, 2nd revised and expanded edition
The first edition of Klavdij Sluban’s photomonograph Nekje drugje Tukaj / Elsewhere Here, published to accompany the current exhibition at the Jakopič Gallery, sold out at the end of May. For this reason, we have prepared a revised and expanded international edition of the book in four languages – Slovene, English, French, and German. The photomonograph, which features around 150 of Sluban’s works, is introduced by an expert essay by Dr. Marija Skočir, the exhibition’s curator and the publication’s editor.
In her text, she writes that Klavdij Sluban is “an artist who has no home, yet is at home everywhere his spirit can anchor itself in a calming restlessness“. “Although painful, this restlessness is profoundly creative, driving the photographer through countless steps taken. (…) For Sluban, the process of photographing is a vital necessity, tied to the need to continually shift the place of his presence. The real work begins only when the time comes for editing, selecting, and discarding. This sometimes happens much later—perhaps only after he has returned from his next journey through the same places,” she adds.
Sold out
The 2nd, revised and expanded international edition of the photomonograph, dated July 2024 and printed by LUart Ribnica, is introduced by an expert text by the exhibition’s curator and editor of the monograph, Dr Marija Skočir in four languages – Slovenian, English, French and German.
It features around 150 of Sluban’s photographs from the exhibition Elsewhere Here at the Jakopič Gallery, which illuminate more than three decades of Sluban’s work on around 200 pages.
In the 1st edition of the photomonograph (in Slovene and English) a poetic cycle by Boris A. Novak’s Photography is an Art That Saves Yesterday Forever in the Heart is included alongside the curator’s text. The book sold out at the end of May 2024, but some copies of the 1st edition are still available in the collector’s edition.
The monograph is also available in a limited edition of 25 specially designed and crafted collector’s copies, each including a signed and numbered analogue photograph by Klavdij Sluban, measuring 24 × 18 cm. The package also contains the first, now sold-out version of the book.
