Medieval Ljubljana
Exhibition Catalogue
The catalogue Medieval Ljubljana presents new discoveries and fresh perspectives on the flourishing of the medieval city.
The main focus of the catalogue (and the exhibition) is on recent archaeological discoveries that are reshaping the historiography of Ljubljana. The discovery of a wooden vessel on Stritarjeva Street pushes the birth of Ljubljana back to the early 11th century. Finds of leatherworking products from what is now Krojaška Street bear witness to the early urbanisation of Ljubljana on the right bank of the Ljubljanica River. A surprising discovery of a “knight’s” grave offers a rare opportunity to gain insight into the personal story of a young man of high social status. The exhibition concludes with the period of the Reformation in Ljubljana.
The catalogue concludes with a selection of nearly 130 objects from the collection of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana.
