CUKR Magazine #3
A magazine about art and life
Theme of the issue: Generation
Avaliable only in Slovene
Only a few left (1)
The opening section of the magazine focuses on the breakup of Yugoslavia and the independence of Slovenia. We delve into the concept of the “generation of independence-makers,” a term that only began to appear more prominently in public discourse a decade after independence. And what have these independence makers, especially in the cultural sphere, actually left to those who are trying to establish themselves today? Why is there no good “independence-maker art”? What kind of musical soundtrack accompanied the breakup of Yugoslavia through turbofolk and where have all the čefurji (and other subcultures) gone?
The central essay is written by Christy Wampole, who examines the impact of irony, an attitude that has grown beyond a mere rhetorical form and expanded into a lifestyle, on generational consciousness.
What remains after the generation of ’68? Why should we be wary of Plečnik’s worshippers? And how did generations begin to dictate the content of Hollywood productions? Why are we all so exhausted, and why must we break with parenting traditions passed down from generation to generation and instead find new ways of raising children?
In an interview, Emily Segal, professional trend forecaster, writer, publisher, and artist, explains why generations are sweeping generalizations that can exist primarily in art.
And in a conversation with Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, we learn more about the various generations of his artistic practice, especially the Fourth Generation, currently on view at Cukrarna.
More than thirty authors contributed to the content and visual design of the magazine, among them: Dino Pešut, Marko Zajc, Mojca Pišek, Denis Adanalić, Eva Mahkovic, Urša Jerkič, Mladen Dolar, Miloš Kosec, Jela Krečič, Manca G. Renko, Asiana Jurca Avci, Urška Pečnik (Helmut Kolektiv), Urša Premik, Najlepše mesto na svetu, Igor Andjelić, Blaž Gutman, Meta Wraber, and many others.
