The Vila Zlatica Collection
The bookmarks are adorned with details from the wall paintings in Villa Zlatica, dating to around 1933.
The VILA ZLATICA [Villa Zlatica] collection was created to mark the opening of the renovated Villa Zlatica, the former home of Ljubljana’s mayor Ivan Hribar.
The villa in Rožna Dolina, together with its landscaped garden, is dedicated to the permanent museum presentation of bourgeois life and vibrant cultural activity. The City Museum of Ljubljana preserves the exceptional legacy of Ljubljana’s former mayor; in this way, his remarkable persona lives on and is presented to visitors as part of the permanent exhibition.

In addition to outlining the phenomenon of the bourgeoisie, the exhibition is a homage to Ivan Hribar (1851–1941; mayor 1896–1910), his life and work, as well as to his daughter Dr. Zlatica, who faithfully preserved her father’s legacy and recorded her memories of him and of the family’s life.
Ivan Hribar is presented as a multifaceted figure of the period spanning the mid-19th to the mid-20th century. He was a politician, diplomat, banker, publicist, translator, and businessman. The preserved museum objects speak to both his private and public life. His living and working environment is presented, along with many of his personal belongings.
Around 700 museum objects are displayed in reconstructed living spaces within the villa – the library, kitchen, reception room, dining room, “white” bedroom, guest room, servants’ room, and more.
